Basic Italian food from an Italian group of folks.  The flavors aren't mind blowing, but they're solid and you gotta love a place that doesn't raise their prices for four years and counting.  A good spit to turn when you get an, "Um, hmmm, yeah, it'll be like 45 minutes" when you up at Patxi's...

Chutney Restaurant

Solid.  I enjoy it often.  There are other spots with a tad more spice or flavor out there like the Naan n Curry on O'Farrell, but the consistency at Chutney is pretty gosh darn tootin' tight.  Than and their naan is just uber fabu.

Good space with relevant, rotating shows that I've liked in the past.  Worth a stop in even if the wares might be out of your range.

Tartine Bakery

Yeah, it's great and tasty, but it's just way too packed.  Other than stopping by to pick up tasty treats, there's not really any reason to stop for a duration, but let's have any few reviews to get it over 1,000 anyways.  Mmmkay?

The Red Room Cocktail Lounge

I can basically fall out of the steps of my apartment and be there, so it's quite convenient for a drink when the need arises.  At some point, it may have been considered a dive bar by some, but it's really not.  It's an okay place to meet up with a couple of friends for a rowdy drinks.  I'm more of a beer and wine kind guy, but those in the know tell me their cocktails are mighty fine and potent.

Global Exchange Fair Trade Craft Center

Neighborhood: Noe Valley

An amazingly good crippie store.  Usually these kinds of places are just full or yoga pants and incense, but this one actually has some interesting things for sale in it that are cute or cool.  In other words, I could shop for more than just my crippie mom here and buy presents that normal folks would even enjoy.

My only gripe is that this place (like others) charges something like 1000% markup on the goods that they're selling.  While I'm not against folks making a profit, it does beg the question as to how is this free trade and not just using some indigenous people to make cheap stuff all in the name of giving them a "fair price" for their work, which is still hardly anything?

Le Zinc French Bistro

Categories: French, Breakfast & Brunch, Tapas Bars

Good, but not amazing.  The service was well, bumpy.  They were decent enough, but seemed to be a bit disorganized when we were there.  Probably had to do with having lunch at 2:30.

The food is definitely tasty and while maybe a good price for Now residents, I found it to be a bit steep for what it is, which is simple French bistro fare.

Loose leaf tea is a plus though.

A great parking lot.  A really, really great parking lot, although Stockton Street Garage is easier to get in to and cheaper.  As a community space, it fails.  It's just a large concrete slab with no character.  Put out a slew of chairs so that people can sit (yeah, I know the homeless will sit there too, boo hoo Saks Fifth Avenue) and then maybe it will be more inviting.

Swirl on Castro

Categories: Wine Bars, Beer, Wine & Spirits
Neighborhood: Castro

This is not a wine bar.  It is a wine store with a small tasting area in the back.  I have no idea why they were deigned as being in the  wine bar category.  I found out this failing hard way when meeting up with friends under the assumption it was a wine bar.  We ended up going to Yield in the Dogpatch.  Thank god someone had a car...

As a wine shop, they're pretty good.  They have a large selection, although it seemed pretty standard to what I find in most wine shops around the city and nothing really stuck out as making them unique except for their being a wine shop in Castro.

But, if we call them a wine bar, then we need to call Coit Liquors and The Jug Shop a wine bar as well, since they have similar tasting areas that while not as stylish, do allow people to taste wines.  I mean, these guys close at 9PM.  Again, not a bar.
